The Idea!

Back in 1993 Veterinary Surgeon John Burns, often heard too often from his clients the same pet problems began advising that nutrition would lead to better health for our pets.  However, the difficulty in the pet food market at that time was that it was difficult to find food of good quality and to a suitable receipt that was available in cans or pouches.

John’s vision was to produce moist food for our pets with 21st century thinking: food where the ingredients are ethically sourced, showed care for our environment, supported local communities, created employment and promoted sustainability.

This is how Burns Pet Nutrition was born.  John went into producing his own pet food, Burns Real Food, with Golden Acres -our pet food production partner, this dry dog food range –encompassed as many of his core values as possible.  The dry food market has been the foundation of Burns Pet Nutrition for the past 16 years and the company has grown from strength to strength each year. 

Two years ago, John was able to realise his original vision – in 2009 John, with his son Hamish as the project manager,  began setting up his own moist pet food in West Wales, in his own factory using ingredients for the production of their pet food from their own farm or locally sourced (when possible).
